Excerpt from Letter sent January 3, 2003
To all Ohio Police Chiefs from former Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery: A new website was recently launched in memory of the over 670 Ohio law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The Ohio Fallen Officers website, www.ohiofallenofficers.com, was created in conjunction with Ohio C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) at www.ohiocops.com, a Chapter of National C.O.P.S. Ohio C.O.P.S. was founded in 1999 by Linda Pope after the murder of her husband Daniel in the line of duty. Its mission is to provide resources to assist in rebuilding the lives of surviving families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, as determined by federal criteria. Furthermore, C.O.P.S. provides training to law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public of the need to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors. This beautiful online memorial was created and donated by three Cincinnati residents: Linda Pope, President of Ohio C.O.P.S.; Sue Veldkamp, President of Matschca Design, Inc., and an Ohio C.O.P.S. Advisory Board Member; and Kent Orso, Vice President of ImageNet 2000, an Ohio C.O.P.S. Advisory Board Member and police officer. Members of our staff and I had a chance to visit with these dedicated individuals and view the website with them. We encourage you to visit the site as well. The website features the song, "Shattered Lives," written and performed by Cincinnati Singer/Songwriter Paul Jones in memory of all fallen officers. All proceeds from the sale of this song go to further the mission of Ohio C.O.P.S. In an effort to keep the website up-to-date, the developers encourage submissions of information and/or photographs. Contact information is provided on the website. |
